SUBJECT: Plan, plan, plan.
Step 5: Plan! Fail to plan, plan to fail. We have all heard the saying “if you fail to plan you plan to fail”. This is never more true than when it comes to weight loss! Let’s face it. If you need to lose a few pounds, or a lot of pounds, you did not plan at some point. You ate what was put in front of you and you never understood what you were actually consuming. You walked past someone’s desk at work and ate a candy bar they had out in the welcome dish. You cleaned off a few uneaten pieces of food your kids left on their plate. The fact is; there never was a plan in place in the first place.
You need to plan ahead for those times you feel tempted to eat the candy. You need to know what you are going to eat for lunch so you don’t end up getting dragged along to lunch at a restaurant where portion sizes are generally 3 times what you should actually consume. You need to plan what is for dinner so you already have it in some step of planning and preparing so you are not tempted to just get a pizza because you are tired. Plan, plan and plan.
You are good at planning. Look at the rest of your life. Life is hectic these days. We are non-stop runners. We are on the go and always managing so many things. Make your nutrition one of those things and you might just get rid of a few of the to do list you have now because they don’t fit in your new lifestyle.
Action Step – This is perhaps the most difficult part. Only because it will lead to success or failure. Take the time each evening and decide what you want to eat the following day. Some people plan out their week on Sundays and meal prep. While this is great and I highly recommend it, I plan the night before each day. The reason I choose this method, is that I can have some variety in my nutrition. Whichever way you decide, just make sure to plan.
You are doing amazing….Now on to step 6.
